To-San 2nd half

TO-SAN IS THE FALSE NAME OF AHN CHANG HO WHO DEVOTED HIS LIFE TO FURTHERING THE EDUCATION OF KOREA AND IT’S INDEPENDENCE MOVEMENT.

KATA IS FORMAL EXERCISE WITH IMAGINARY OPPONENTS.

  • In your “X” stance block with your right palm, and protect your block with your left palm in front of your elbow.
  • As you rotate Counter-clockwise to a left forward stance, bring the right hand up to protect the left side of the face. Finish in a left forwar stance and backfist. move to a right forward stance backfist.
  • When you finish the first half of the kata and turn around to go the other direction, the first two sides are the same as the first two sides of the beginning of the form.
  • Make sure when you do the first angle down the middle, you pull out with your left leg, therefore you should kick with your right leg and complete a front snap kick.
  • Keep in mind as you do both kicks with each diagonal, you should be finished with your wedging block and have both hands in first after you grab, and then kick and bring your hands into chamber.
  • Take your time when you do the two high blocks down the middle. Each stance should be low, wide and strong. The movement is a level jump each time.
  • At the end of the kata it is important to end strong. After your tricky spin, sink into your horse stance and knife hand strike. Then look at your next target with head movement and shuffle into your next horse stance with a strong knife hand strike and loud major kia.

Remember to move in c-motions for forward stances and stay level.

Take your time with this kata and learn the rhythm of how you should move during it!
